A directory is only worth having if it is true. Here is exactly how BulkyWaste stays true.
The source of truth is the council
Every record on this site is checked against the council's own official website: the bulky waste service page, the booking flow, and the published charges. We do not copy other directories, and we do not guess. Where a council has not published a clear figure, we say so rather than inventing one.
What "checked" means
Each council page carries the date we last read the official source. A record counts as verified only when charges, item rules or limitations were taken directly from that source on that date. As of 15 August 2026, 265 of 361 councils have verified 2026 charges; the remainder are marked "being verified" and sit at the top of the next sweep.
The weekly cycle
Every week we recheck a rotating slice of all 361 councils, prioritising the councils people look at most, anything flagged by a reader, and any council that has announced a price change. Corrections reported by readers are fixed within the week.
Where the base list comes from
The list of 361 waste collection authorities comes from the official ONS register of UK local authorities (296 in England, 32 in Scotland, 22 in Wales, 11 in Northern Ireland). In two-tier England the district council runs collections, so that is who we list. Postcode matching uses the ONS postcode database via postcodes.io.

BulkyWaste.org.uk is funded by WasteSpeed, our private collection service. That relationship is disclosed on every page where WasteSpeed appears, WasteSpeed never affects what we say about any council, and the council is usually the cheapest option if you can wait and can lift to the kerb. We say that too.
